Description
Do you want to have an amplifier the size of a toaster that gives you the quality of tone for BOTH electric and acoustic instruments that you’d expect from a studio situation with enough volume to cover almost any gig? Of course you do. That’s why if you play guitar, or any stringed instrument with a pickup for that matter, you need a Bud. The Bud has every feature you need and more than enough volume to get your bandmates or club manager to ask you to turn down, and coupled with the extension cabinet you can keep up with the heaviest-handed drummer with no problem. The amp and cabinet are naturally feedback resistant which limits the need for artificial notch filtering and other suppression technologies that negatively effect your tone.
But it’s not all about size and volume, there are lots of tiny, loud amplifiers on the market. You’ve tried them. You know what they sound like. The Bud is different. Henriksen Amplifiers is all about tone first, the incredibly portable size and feature set of The Bud were developed around the sound, not the other way around and you can definitely hear the difference. Our pre-amp, from input to output, is designed using the highest grade audio components. We offer a 5-band EQ with carefully chosen center frequencies which were fine-tuned by ear to meet the demands of different playing environments using the widest possible array of musical instruments. We give you two identical pre-amps, each with independent EQ and reverb and actual 48 volt phantom power, and an auxiliary input on each channel so that whatever you are using it for can be EQ’d separately from your instrument signal.

I absolutely love this amp. I have a 2006 Henriksen JazzAmp 12-R that is fantastic too. Henriksen amps have the pure tone that I crave. Peter processed my order immediately and provides excellent customer service.
This amp is a game changer. I know life-long Fender Deluxe and Twin Reverb guys that are switching to this little powerhouse amp. (The line out feature is the key. Get your sound and go direct to the board.) This amp can handle all electric and acoustic guitars equally well. I use it for my L5-CES Jazz guitar, and the tone is perfect! Buy with confidence. You’ll love this amp!

I love this little amplifier for it great sound but also that it is not a back breaker! It works great with my electric tele and a nice sound for acoustic guitar as well. Depending on your pickups this has very little hiss unless you really crank it. I’m an endorsing artist as well and enjoy this amplifier on a daily basis and when I go and play gigs
Michael McWilliamms –
I have had my original BUD for 8 years now, and it’s been a very good-sounding, lightweight amp. I use it mostly for acoustic guitar and violin in conjunction with my Boss ME-90 effects board and the pair make a great combo. Occasionally, the keyboardist in my band will use it with his synth and it works well in that situation. I don’t use it alone much for electric guitar, but recently I have been using it with a Mesa speaker cabinet, loaded with a Celestion Lead 80 12″ speaker that has a subtle high frequency roll off. The combination of the BUD and the 12″ speaker is fantastic…very rich and perfect for jazz, particularly fusion. It’s too bad I don’t have two of everything to run a stereo rig. All the great points about this amp have already been covered by others, and I agree that Henriksen should put in a different chip for the reverb and do something about the pop when it’s turned on, but the positives outweigh these few negatives by far.

I purchased “The Bud 6” and it’s matching extension speaker a few months ago. I waited to submit this review until I had some solid experience using it. Believe me when I tell you that all the accolades in previous reviews are genuine and true. I recently used “The Bud 6 & matching Ext Speaker as a PA system at a 150 seat theater with grand piano accompaniment. It had plenty of volume (more if I needed it), the sound was articulate, clear and rich. The units were sitting on the floor of the stage, slightly behind me, about 10 feet apart. I could clearly hear all the nuances of my vocals even when singing softly. On top of that, I was able to pack them in my 26” four wheeler luggage for the flight to Florida. It doesn’t get much better than that.
If you’re on the fence about purchasing this truly amazing professional well built equipment, don’t think twice about it. You will be very happy and satisfied with your purchase. Highly recommended.

I’m an acoustic guitarist/vocalist, performing in a variety of situations, usually on river cruises. I never know what the PA situation will be, and I wanted to have a small, fail-safe solution that would provide my monitor and a clean line to FOH. The Bud 6 is by far the best amp for me in my situation. It fits in a Pelican Air 1615 suitcase along with my other gear and clothes, but do have to take it out of the travel bag. Honestly, I think the bag is a mistake. A slip cover would keep the rain off, and it’s always a pain to bag/unbag an amp, imho. While excellent, the Bud is not perfect. My only serious gripe is the reverb. Such an incredible amp deserves a verb without such a wonky trail. If you leave it at low settings, which I do, it’s acceptable enough to keep me from bringing another unit. Pop some headphones on, crank the verb and you might be shocked at how unusable it would be for a live direct recording. There is an obnoxious pop if you happen to flip the Wireless switch while the amp is turned up, no big deal. On the plus side- the EQ is incredible. The shelving frequencies, in particular the low and high mids, are fantastically musical. I find that I have to boost the presence more than expected to get a good acoustic/vocal PA like sound, in particular when the amp is on the floor. Speaking of, the downward facing port really has to be on a good solid surface to really appreciate the low end the amp is capable of. As far as boosting the presence, the noise floor of the amp is quiet enough so hiss is minimal and acceptable. In spite of some minor quibbles, there is really nothing else that gets close in regards to size/performance and I’m very glad I made the purchase. Thanks, Henrikson!

I’ve had my Bud for over 5 years now and it is the best amp I have ever have. This past year I’ve played over 100 gigs, solo or with my band, at vineyards, wine bars and restaurants and it projects a clean powerful sound when i plug in my Martin D-18 in one channel and my vocals in the other. I mostly use it by itself for my solo gigs but for my band and bigger gigs I attach it to a QSC or JBL powered speaker. I get many compliments on my sound. This was a big purchase for me at the time and it was an upgrade from my Fishman Loudbox. I am so glad I own this amp and I reccomend it to everyone. http://www.Jack-Quigley.com

I’m writing to extoll the virtues of the original BUD. I’ve owned this great amplifier for over two (2) years and I’m still impressed with its sound and performance.
We are a Jazz vocal duo. Our most previous continuous gig was a supper club which included two dining rooms and the bar. The BUD, and one passive extension cabinet powered the three rooms and easily overcame the dinner and bar crowd at level 4 volume.
The sound of the vocals was clear and full, while the archtop sound was round and filled the room.
Great sound. Light weight. No issues. We have influenced friends to purchase their BUD and have received the same results as well as a hearty “thanks”.
I recommend this amplifier.
Scott Jahnke –
I love this amp! I am 70 years old and bought this amp because of it’s size as 13 pounds is about all I can handle these days. I have many old amps, even from the early 60’s, that don’t move!
Also, the fact so many reviews talked about how clean and precise the sound was. I have several Martin guitars with fishman pickups and they just sound great even though my music room in the basement has a carpeted concrete floor. I took the Bud 6 upstairs to our wood frame wood floor and it sounded incredible…I didn’t realize that the amp had a sound port facing down even though the speakers face front. This really added to the depth of the sound with the hollow wood floor under the amp. I also really like the fact the amp has 2 channels as I use a mic in the 2nd channel to sing. If some of my open mic venues ever open back up after covid, I will take the amp/mic and play just as is or cable from the Bud 6 to a PA system if needed. Couldn’t be happier!
Tony Scally –
Love this little amp. Perfect for solo gigs. Handles my Guild Artist Award along with a classical with a piezo pickup. Doesn’t really cut a gig with drums but I just use the Henrriksen Jazz amp for bigger gigs. Best surprise was the sound the little amp gave me in the studio. Recorded a new album this August with my group The Silk City Jazz Quartet and the sound is just fantastic . The studio owner was so impressed he told me he was going to go and buy one to have in-house. These are great amps!

This is a serious amp for a professional. I guess this makes it a serious amp for anyone.
I most often use it for lounge work. Arch tops or semi hollow guitars. Sinatra, Jobim, etc. But I have played solid body guitars (PRS, Tele)flat tops (Taylor, Martin) and have used it as a PA in a emergency that happens.
The amp covers the room and frequencies.

I’ve been playing My Bud 6 for several years. I have the older, 17 lb. version which is still light enough to handle in the studio or loading in and out to a stage show or small room gig. It replaced a 35 lb. “Acoustic” amp that didn’t sound even close to the quality of the Bud. I usually play acoustic flattop and mandolin with it and some acoustic archtop jazz as well. My lady friend, a performing guitarist on electric, tried it recently and was scanning the Henriksen web site before she departed for home after a session together. She performs mostly in small venues and besides the power and sound quality she can move it in and out of a venue one handed with her guitar in the other–especially the lighter version. I see a purchase coming soon. I first got mine because as I have aged I could barely lift my previous amp. Great in every respect and I would recommend it to anyone who wants an easily transportable amp with fantastic sound.
Jyff –
Love my Bud. Easy to carry and load in with one trip. Great sound. Love that I can do everything (voice and guitar) with one amp.
bob rozzoni –
With over 50 years of acoustic playing behind me, I have never found an amp capable of such clean clear sound reproduction, to say nothing of the light as a feather weight and ease of portability! It really doesn’t get any better.
Bill Gugliotta –
The Bud 6 has renewed my desire to plug in and play electric guitar. The sound and features in this little amp are amazing. The small footprint is perfect for my tiny practice space. In a small room the amp sounds great at low volume, but you can crank it up when you want and it still sounds very clean. I have the volume set at about 3 and roll back the guitar’s volume a bit and it’s perfect for practicing. You can shape your sound with the EQ if you want but it doesn’t need a lot of tweaking, in my opinion. It just sounds good. Plus, you can connect your phone to the Bud’s Wireless and put on a backing track to play along with. I like that it has two independent channels. Right now, I’m mainly playing my Eastman thinline with it, but it also sounds great with my Taylor acoustic. I’m happy I got it and I know it’s be the only amp I need for a long time.
chris r –
I love the amp. It sounds great, has a lot of tonal flexibility and is very light. So easy to move around. Also – it is very quiet. Very quiet background noise when I am not playing. I would prefer an easier to reach on/off switch. Well built – solid handle for carrying. Nice bag for transportation. I love the clean sound with a slight amount of reverb. A very high quality amp.
Dennis Warne –
Its the perfect amp for me. tone. power-120 watts-lite weight……IT IS THE BEST AMP EVER
Bob Claymier –
I love my Bud 6. Both my Gibson 135 (a jazz box type guitar) and my Taylor 816ce sound amazing on it. It’s all my flute player/vocalist and I need for our senior living community shows and other small to medium venues. Can also line out to a house system, so it’s very versatile. Lightweight, powerful yet transparent tone. Well worth the money and perfect for all my needs. I have been with my flutist for 20 years and I bought this amp specifically to play with her.
John Alfred Mouton, III –
Absolutely love my Bud amp and the personal attention I got in the purchase process.
Paul Ukena –
I had the original Bud, and sold it to a friend and bought the newer lighter-weight version when it came out. I love this little amp – I use it with my archtops and my flat-top mini jumbo, and sing with a mic plugged into the other channel. It has served me very well, and I love the tone I get for jazz. I have performed outdoors with it, and it has plenty of volume for my purposes.
The friend I sold the first version to loves his as well. A terrific investment.
Buddy Merriam –
I’m loving my Bud 6. I mostly play my Monteleone Grand Artist mandolin (with a stereo set up) into a Grace Audio “Felix” Preamp and the sound is fantastic! I’ve also used the amp as a small PA with my Trio, mandolin, acoustic guitar & either string bass or violin with an Ear Trumpet mic. Again the sound was great and everybody heard the band fine. The amp is very easy to transport and has excellent tone.
Gary Turner –
I play in in Organ trio with a drummer. The Bud Six has more than enough clean volume to handle the task. use a Benedetto and and L5 with it and it sounds great. Last gig got lazy, left the Yamaha stage pass at home and sang through the second channel. Didn’t miss the PA one bit. The Bud sounded great with guitar and vocals going through it. IMO,There is no better straight ahead jazz amp out there. Don’t hesitate to get one. Im sure the 10 and 12 versions are great too. But the size and weight of the six is so cool. Have never said to myself wish it had a bigger speaker. It just sounds great.
Keith Behunin –
The Fertile Dirt Band passes out washboards, spoons, cowbells, Cajun rub boards, jugs, washtub bass, saws and dinner bell triangles to our audience. The Bud has always made my bluegrass banjo louder than the terrible racket they make! Easy to pack along.
Ron Ferguson –
I’ve been playing for 25 plus years with the same trio and hauling equipment from Portland Oregon to Southern California and beyond. I received my Bud Six two weeks ago and played my first gig with this little amp. What a joy. Plugged into the amp, set up the tone I wanted from my D’Angelico New Yorker on channel one, then set up channel two for my Taylor T5. The set went off without a hitch switching from one guitar to another seamlessly. The room seated 75 or so with standing room for a total capacity of 150 per the fire code and the amp could be heard over the background noise, bass, and keyboard mix. That said it’s the tone that sets this little guy apart. Portable, truly jazz friendly with a breadth of tonal options. (Love the tweeter switch). I’ll be using the BUD from now on plugging into the house system if need be. Save your back and simply get this amp. You’ll be glad you did. For reference I also own AER, VOX, Peavy, Acoustic amps as well as a Carvin PA. I’ll be passing them on but keeping the BUD.
David Cant –
It’s all been said. The bud is the only amp I need.
Troy Millard –
I purchased The Bud SIX after viewing Kenny Hill’s demonstration on YouTube. I play a Hill 7 string with the Barbera pickup and The Bud handles the low B string effortlessly.
I play solo guitar regularly in a venue that can accommodate 100 or so patrons (who can be just a little boisterous at times). I’ve had no problem whatsoever with headroom or feedback. I’ve been playing professionally for many moons and this amp is simply astonishing. The sound is very natural with very little eq needed depending on the number of people. My guitar actually sounds like my guitar (nylon string players will love The Bud). I have no reservations at all in recommending this remarkable amp. Five stars for sure.
Joe Trimbach –
Great amp, sound-wise, but not totally gig-ready in my opinion, since it lacks a mute switch, which many working musicians use all the time.
Blake Russell –
An incredible amp. Amazing volume and clarity
tom@cusheng.com –
I am not a professional. Just an old guitar nut. Needed a small amp with plenty of power for the once a year gig at the Home Town Pork Chop Dinner, and occasional night at the local coffee shop. My Bud was purchased August 2017. My guitars are all acoustic electric including a couple of nice Martins, a Parker Fly Concert and Buscarino Starlight Nylon. The Starlight is my go to guitar. I don’t use any effects. Like to travel as light as possible. The Bud gig bag is quality made, the amp is bullet proof, the built in reverb is just the right thing for me. Sound reproduction is perfect, it is unchanged at the volume you need. Plenty of power for a the Pork Chop tent; about 4000 square feet. The Bud Six is also civil enough for practice sessions in my happy place. It performs well at all volume levels and have never had a feedback problem. I don’t sing anymore but I used to run a mic through channel 2. Works just fine with the mic. I recommend the Bud Six for those who need portability and power for those small gigs. If you want glitz and lots of knobs and complications with all kinds of unnecessary power, you might not want this one. I’ve been down that road. It’s just expensive and does not sound as good.
David Chandler –
An amazing amp. Highly portable, with 2 channels. The sound is remarkably defined, with a clarity that I’ve not experienced with other amps. I’ve played electric & acoustic guitars, fiddles, mandolins, and electric wind instruments through the amp, and always got a great tone. A must-have, IMO.
Kevin Harding –
I’m a lifelong gigging guitarist who has been playing mostly nylon strings (Brazilian music) for the last 20 years. I use a handmade, Spanish instrument with an RMC pickup system. I have been using a handmade amp for the last 12 years or so which I’ve been pleased with, however, I decided to look for a smaller amp and heard a friend playing a Gibson L-5 through a Henriksen Bud Six unit. I couldn’t believe the tone but realized that the amp might not translate to an acoustic instrument. I shouldn’t have worried. I’ve been gigging regularly and exclusively with my Bud Six and I absolutely love it. It is sensitive to touch, has responsive tone parameters, and sounds nuanced, natural and balanced. And it’s plenty loud. I play with a 4 pc. group and have had no volume issues. This is the finest amp I’ve ever owned. (Great customer service too.)
Pat O’Brien –
I have owned my Bud 6 for just shy of a year. If you scroll down, you will see my first review in January of this year. I am still completely delighted with this amp. I have used it at home for practice and have taken it to our neighborhood jam sessions for myself and others to use. The performance of this little gem continues to amaze me and others, and I have not had a single problem with it or the extremely handy gig bag that came with it.
Frank Cost –
The Bud 6 has brought out the true magnificences of three instruments that were underperforming with other amplifiers. These include a classic single-coil Telecaster, A
standard Les Paul, and an Eastman thin hollow-bodied single-humbucker arch top. Don’t underestimate what a properly amplified solid body guitar can sound like. The Les Paul is now as close to a grand piano as a guitar can get.
Ron Ferguson –
Received my Bud Six last week and am delighted. I’ll be playing my first gig with this amp Friday in a medium to large coffee shop that sits 70 to 80 plus a stand-up bar. I’ll take my VOX along in case the sound check warrants a larger amp but believe the Bud will be perfect. I’ve been playing with the same trio for 25 years and during that time have purchase 5 amps most recently the AER TE but am significantly more impressed with the Bud and its excellent features. A jazz musicians dream. Buy the Bud and you’ll not regret it.
Phillip Amidon –
( I forgot to rate this…..FIVE stars for sure…thank you
Phillip Amidon –
Perfect amplifier…agree w/all positive comments…I bought The Bud 03/2018 and using it as my only amp for my violin and vocals. MIC keyboard thru old 100 watt Trace Eliot amp. Wife & I play as a duet, all the time in bars, churches, house parties, on stage, in 2500 square foot Legion halls, Grange halls, etc. Do not need to go thru PA system. Couldn’t be happier. Buy it, you will not be disappointed.
( I will replace Trace Eliot w/ new Bud when it sickens)
psobrien –
I received my new Bud 6 yesterday. I am delighted so far. I won’t repeat all the good things about it other reviewers have said. I set it up and played my 2005 Ovation Standard Elite LX and Taylor 522ce through it, and they both sounded great. I plugged a Shure SM-58 into channel one, and it also sounded great. The reverb sounds realistic not artificial like on the amp the Bud replaced. The Wireless also works well and sounds good. The gig bag is high quality, well padded with what feels to be closed cell foam, and it even has YKK zippers. Those zippers represent an attention to quality and detail to me. Of course, the size and weight make it a delight to use and move.
Hans Balstedt –
Two weeks ago I bought the Bud SIX here in Sweden and it’s simply the perfect companion for my Gibson Wes L-5 and my amplified handmade classical guitar. Both guitars really sing in a beautiful way with when plugged in to the Bud – that’s the best way to describe the sound. The Bud provides a unique musical “attitude” to the sound, beyond the balanced and powerful character. I was actually planning to the buy a 10″ Henriksen amplifier, either the Bud TEN or the Blue TEN, but ended up choosing the Bud SIX because of its fast respons w the smaller speaker and an extremely beautiful sound with classical guitar.

I am in Africa, in the country called “SENEGAL”. I just received my The Bud Six amp yesterday. I have tried it but at the moment it is difficult to say more than the others. I have had a lot of amplifiers in my life (Jazz CHORUS 120, Fender fender princeton twin reverb, Peavey Classic etc) but I am surprised by the power in this size and this weight. The sound is natural. We wouldn’t even need effects. I think I got a great deal. The BLUETTOTH is a plus well thought out. Bravo Hendriksen!
John Rankin –
This amp is amazing! I use it for solo and small acoustic gigs (trios and quartets), and it has a natural sound on nylon, steel string, and jazz guitars and with every kind of pickup. Loads of volume. At a low volume my 7 string arch top sounds great also (I haven’t tried it on louder gigs). Sandmen have commented on its clarity. I sing through it also, and it has a good vocal sound. I really like the separate reverbs on each channel. The gig bag is very well made and easy to handle or put on my shoulder. I would love to see a standby switch, especially because it can make a popping sound when turning off or on and not completely turned down. Otherwise, this is one terrific amp, and I love it!
Larry Klose –
The Bud 6″ has been mine for a couple of years, replacing a 37 lb. acoustic twin speaker amp that I can’t lift any more. The Bud sounds great with everything I’ve got–a Shanti acoustic with a Baggs Anthem, Ken Miller flamenco (K & K guitar twin), Unicorn and Mustang (Taku Sakashta) F5-L mandolin (K & K mando twin), and two Steve Andersen Archtops–one acoustic with a Lollar Johnny Smith floater, one with a built-in SM Parsons Street PAF Humbucker knockoff (quite a pickup, BTW). Every one of them sounds great and with little trouble to set up and EQ. Fabulous tone, especially with the archtops. I’ve been using a DI direct to the PA for gigs but I’m planning on using the Bud instead with the line out to the board. It’s versatility is great, I can move it without pain and it fits anywhere. I have yet to try it with a mic for vocals but that comes next. I have absolutely no regrets and it’s the only amp I currently own..
Louis M Moran –
The sound is impeccable. How an amp this small sounds so big and is so loud is clearly straight up magic.
It takes pedals, your acoustic, your jazz box, Les Paul, Strat, Tele, 335 and if it comes up your Norwegian death metal 7 string tuned down to H.
If there’s anything wrong with this amp it’s that if there is anything wrong with your instrument you’re going to hear it – but you were smart enough to buy this amp – your instruments are good.
Truly a stunning, versatile part of your rig. I cannot recommend this amp enough.
Tony Scally –
This amp is fantastic! I’ve used its on duo jazz guitar gigs, a solo jazz guitar gig and a solo classical guitar gig. Worked well in all environments. Even used it to sit in with a guitar, bass and drum trio. It was only OK with the drummer. I only played a couple of tunes but don’t think it could cut it for a whole gig with a drummer. I have a Ten for that kind of stuff. But the tone is fantastic in a box this small. I highly recommend it for any kind of solo or small gig work. Just tremendous! Two guitarists I worked with are already saving up to get one of their own.My only complaint is where they placed the on/off switch. I take a half star away for that.
Kip Sandfield –
A big fat warm tone comes out of this diminutive amp when I plug in either one of my two favorite guitars….1959 es345 or 1957 es225 tdc…superb pick attack response and dynamic finger style joy as well…I’ve gigged with it in jazz trios many times…couldn’t be happier…
Trevor Hanson –
There are already lots of raves here, so I won’t bother going into much detail. Trust me, the amp is versatile, light, loud, wonderful. I bought a Bud Six to replace my original Bud, which I sold to a friend. I couldn’t resist the new lightweight design, which is very important to me with my very busy gig schedule. It was exactly what I hoped for — like my old Bud after a diet. My car always has a Bud Six and a Bud Ten in the trunk, ready for anything that comes my way. I can’t say enough good about these amps. I sometimes use a Ray extension cabinet, and I often use the Six and Ten together for wide dispersion. The second channel and Wireless interface get used all the time. Great EQ, great balance, nothing touches these rigs.
Charles Young –
I finally took the plunge and ordered a Bud Six, and I cannot be more pleased. The EQ flexibility, the clarity from string to string makes every note in complex chords ring through. There is more than enough low end, more than I even expected as well as plenty of volume. Add to that the crazy size and portability, and it is an amazing amp. Thank you for making such a great piece of gear to make and share music.
Adrián –
A couple of years ago I have this great little amplifier. It is simply sensational and incredible. Its very natural and clean tone is surprising. But it is not far behind when effects are included. I use it with jazz guitars, but also with acoustic or solid electric. Resist all tests. The two inputs are very useful for guitars such as the Godin Multiac Jazz where you can combine the sound of the piezoelectric with the pickup. It is an excellent amplifier. I would only criticize the location of the twitter and power switch.
Rich –
Excellent all around amp. I have used it with the following:
Martin DC1E
Eastman VB105 upright bass
Schecter Jazz 7
Variax through a floor pod
I actually used this at a rehearsal with a big band – I was on upright. It handled the rehearsal OK, I was pushing it. I would use something bigger for a gig with them, but it worked great. I use it with my piano trio all the time for rehearsal on upright. I would use it for my upright on a piano bar gig. Love it for my guitars – used it with a blues band at a club – awesome. Not my one an only – I still love Fender tubes – but definitely keeping it for all it does and at this size and weight, a must have. Especially if you do a lot of things. I will repeat – I put my upright bass through it all the time for rehearsals – great tool to have.
Manfred Hajek –
This amp is fantastic! I play it with Gibson archtops (S400 and L5) and it delivers nothing but their original sound. Even with an electric bass through the second channel the sound was clear, undistorted and perfectly defined. It is perfect for small jam sessions and club gigs, but also for rehearsal at home. Before, I used to play at home with headphones. Now, I prefer the speaker since it has unbeatable sound quality even at very low volume levels. With the gig bag it’s easy to travel with, cables and accessories find enough place. But again, the sound coming out of this tiny box is the most convincing argument to sell your amp – whatever brand – and get the Bud! It’s a masterpiece!!
Matt Heister –
This is a wonderful amp, just as I expected. I’m a professional jazz guitarist for the US Air Force Band. I’ve played The JazzAmp for several years, and recently decided to add The Bud to my personal arsenal. I purchased The Bud last month and am happy to say it has surpassed my highest expectations. It produces wonderful tone, and can do so at a high volume, which I’m impressed an amp so small can deliver.
Gerald Ross –
Just got back from my road trip where I used my new Bud amp (one week old)
in performance. I was a headliner at ukulele festival.
I used both channels with the tweeter activated. Channel one was for my custom built tenor uke equipped with a MI-SI active piezo pickup – LR Baggs UST. Channel two was for my 1954 Fender Champion lap steel guitar – Jason Lollar reissue single-coil pickup. The uke’s EQ was basically set to flat on the Bud. For the steel guitar I boosted both the 80 Hz, and 420 Hz to about 2 o’clock and set the reverb to about 11 o’clock. These are typical lap steel EQ settings.
I used the Bud both as a soloist with my uke and in a band setting with the steel guitar.
The sound person placed a Shure SM-57 about two inches in front of Bud’s speaker. He told me he didn’t have to change the EQ on his board, the Bud got it right. All he had to do was adjust the volume in the house.
I didn’t have to tweak the Bud once during my performance. The amp is a pleasure to work with. After my show both my fellow performers and members of the audience commented on how great of a tone I was getting.
Henriksen has a winner with the Bud.

I received my Bud about a month ago and have used it with a variety of instruments in a variety of situations.
Instruments:
– a Flatiron A-style mandolin with an LRBaggs Radius pickup
– a National Resonator with a Lace slimline humbucker
– a Clark octave mandolin with a K&K piezo
The situations:
– at church, I use it as a personal monitor and direct box
– at a trio coffee shop gig, we each used our respective amps as PAs, connecting our mics and guitars
– at a solo restaurant gig (capacity 75), I used it as a PA, connecting guitar or octave plus vocal mic.
In any combination, this amp excels. On the input side, the input gain control allows for the many different output levels from my instruments’ pickups. On the output end, the DI provides good signal to a house PA system. In between, the signal travels cleanly through the EQ and reverb. The amplification and speakers transmit a clear tone. It’s really amazing how this all happens in such a small box.
This is the best stage tool I’ve ever purchased.

Hi
I recently purchased one of your bud amps mostly for my nylon guitars. I usually play an aer amp and I don’t care for the tone from them for my nylon guitars. So I watched your videos on it and I was blown away by it. So I purchased one and it sounds way better in person,i always on every amp I have, have to turn the midrange all the way up and it never seems to either have enough or turned up sounds like its too much or on a wrong frequency sweep in the mids. Yours is the very first amp that has plenty and with the low and high mids, it seems to be perfect. I play a couple of Kirk Sand guitars and I only have the bass on about 1 1/2,so its plenty also. I always strive to get my guitars to sound plugged in like they do unplugged, with no color or added anything. This amp definetly does that,i have turned the tweeter off to get the tone I am looking for,but that’s another great feature. Its a really great amp and I am truly enjoying it. Thanks a lot,
Tim

I was able to get one of the prototypes of the Bud. It’s fantastic. Like one of the reviewers, I also have a big Mesa, but am unable to pick it up now! The Bud has fantastic sound. I just played a gig outdoors at Evergreen Lake and only needed 1/2 power there! I use an acoustic with a Fisher pickup and a 175; sounds great. I’d encourage anyone to get one!

Tone, tone, tone. I do not believe there is a better amp option available for my needs. My L5 archtop comes alive through the Bud and my Cervantes Crossover nylon string is absolutely natural and beautiful sounding using a L.R. Baggs lyric classical internal mic. With a 112ER extension cabinet I can not think of a guitar scenario the Bud could not excel at.
Want to scream with your favorite solid body? I tried a MESA V-Twin tube preamp pedal through the Bud and it was scary good. Not my norm but if you have the need it sounds great with overdrive.
Don’t let the size fool you. The Bud can handle any venue.
I could not be more pleased with my Bud. It sounds great and looks great in vanilla with matching 112ER extension cabinet.
It would be remiss of me not to mention what a pleasure it has been to deal with Peter Henriksen.
Many Thanks Peter,
Terry Spence

Absolutely love The Bud! Best amp I’ve ever owned! It is the amp of choice for me. The highs are gorgeous and when put on the floor, the bass response is unbelievable. The amp fits under the plane seat so I tour with my own rig.
Highly, highly recommend it!

I have been using the Henriksen Jazzamps for a few years now. I like these amps very much and have bought a few of them for hosting jam sessions and also to mix different ones together when playing out live. I think one of the best things I like about all of these amps is you get great tone without having to mess with a bunch of knobs no matter what type of guitar you plug into it. And they sound pretty much the same whether you’re playing indoors, outdoors, duos or with a full band.
My main setup now is the Bud and a 110 combo that I run in stereo. I’ve owned and still have a lot of different amps and the Henriksen’s are my favorite. I think I have eleven now. I recently started using a few distortion pedals with them for rock/blues gigs and they sound fantastic. I also take a direct out of the Bud into my recording setup and am really happy with the sound. Also worth mentioning here is the outstanding customer service from the owner, Peter. This is one of the best companies around.

This is the first online review I have ever done because I wanted to join the chorus of players that are extolling the virtues of this great amp. I have been playing and teaching for many years and have never been happier with my sound than I am now. I am using the Bud for my jazz quartet as well as a Brazilian jazz single that I perform. Whether I am playing steel or nylon, Bud handles it perfectly. In larger venues I use a 112ER. This combo allows me perform instrumentally and vocally in and situation. I would recommend the Bud to anyone looking for great tone, versatility and super portability.

Meeting Bud and realizing what his mind was after, he would be proud of Peter’s accomplishments. I have several amps, but once I got my Bud I have taken nothing else to the gig (except my JazzAmp 10 If I wanted more spread).
I have gone from the ‘One Amp set-up’ to a full pedal regalia and on break my audience comes to the stage to see how I am getting that wonderful big sound!
Also, at one gig much to my stupidity, the ‘Bud’ in it’s bag fell off the seat of the car and on to the pavement. The ‘Bud’ gig bag protected the Amp in its entirety.
I can go on and on. the Bud’ is a keeper.””eeting Bud and re”

So very happy with this amp. So far only using it for casual jam and practice sessions but hope to play out with it eventually. Pairs very well with carved archtops, great power, great EQ, great reverb – very warm and clear. Cabinet sounds great, nice punch. It’s so nice to be able to grab and go with an amp this small…no need to worry about speakers, cables, and heads. Plenty of volume even without the extension speaker, can keep up with very dynamic drums and horn.
Having said that, it does sound great through an additional cab and I am looking forward to pairing it with the 6†extension cab down the road.
Can use the auxiliary to play an MP3 player through the additional channel, also has headphone jack which sounds very good as well.
Visually a very good looking amp. This amp was well thought out and executed.
Couldn’t be happier.

Incredible amp! My hats off to Peter and the staff at Henriksen amps. This little amp is truly a gem. I’ve had the Bud for nearly 3 months now and I’m very pleased with my purchase of it and it’s companion extension cabinet. My acoustic guitar, L5 with a 57 humbucker, and arch top with a floating pickup all sound so beautiful through it. What amazes me is the fact that regardless of the room size, I’m still still able to dial in the sweet spot for each guitar. The EQ on the bud makes this possible. I highly recommend that any one who plays guitar get a Bud with the companion extension cabinet. It will put a smile on your face, it sure has mine.
Thanks Peter and Staff,
mark

My favorite piece of gear! The portability is unsurpassed for the quality you get. No one believes it when you show up with that little amp”. Enough sound for most any small gig even with loud drummers!””y favorite piece of gear! The portability is unsurpassed for the quality “

Since I received my Henricksen Bud around 2 months ago, it has become my #1 amp for solo guitar gigs, and for smaller room duo gigs. The sound is not only amazing for such a small package, it is also beautiful in that the true tone of the instrument is projected and comes through with great clarity and brilliance. It’s by far the easiest amp I’ve ever owned as far as being portable, and having a very high quality professional sound. I’m a career jazz guitarist, and the Bud is an outstanding addition to my working gear arsenal.

I’m loving The Bud! It covers all the bases for me as it sounds great with my acoustics, electrics and arch tops.
Although it sounds wonderful on its own, I typically add my Jazz Amp 10 Convertible speaker to the mix as an extension cab – just because I can. 🙂

I’d like to add a couple of comments to my original review, which I submitted right after the release of the Bud back in April. I’ve used it dozens of times on gigs with my arch top as well as acoustic guitars, and it’s pure joy to have the classic Henricksen tone in such a portable package. But here’s s real surprise…I’ve been using the Bud as a PA in my weekly Thirsday night restaurant gig…with bass and drums! There’s more than enough volume to cut through, and vocalists sitting in with the band are shocked at the sound and tone we get from the Bud with its built in 5 bans EQ and reverb. My back is happy too, because I’ve replaced a Bose 1 tower system with the Bud!

I bought the Bud to session with other fine recreational jazz musicians and practice. I don’t play out. I love that Henriksen packaged the Bud with so many rational features: the EQ (of course), great reverb, head phone jack, aux in, line out. It’s light, highly portable, doesn’t take up much space, well protected in its travel case. Oh yeah, fantastic tone. My group loved my sound. Thanks for making the Bud.

I had been in dire need for an actual amp for when I headed off to college, one that sounds great and isn’t impossible to lug around. The bud fits my needs so very well, I am extremely satisfied by its performance. It really does showcase everything the instrument plugged in has to offer, without adding anything unnecessary. The EQ is very helpful and can really get you almost any tone you would need. I could walk anywhere on campus if I wanted to with the bud and the guitar on my back thanks to the very handy carrying case. It 2 inputs also come in really handy when another guitarist needs to plug in during rehearsals. I spent a lot of time researching the best amp for my needs, and I am so very happy with my decision to go with the bud!

Absolutely one of my favorite pieces of gear and truly versatile. I’ve used my Bud live and at rehearsal with acoustic, electric, lap, and pedal steel guitars… banjo, fiddle, dynamic and condenser microphones… heck, I’ve even used it as a mono studio monitor when recording parts mobile-style, and also to play set-break music. Works great for all of them and has all the features you’d ever really need, and small enough to make single trips to/from the car a reality… As a working musician, I can’t recommend The Bud (and the folks at Henriksen) highly enough!

The Bud is an astonishing marvel in amplifier engineering. I’m using it for Jazz, Rock, Blues, Nylon & Steel String Acoustic, whatever really. It’s the only amp I own. The Henriksen circuits are the richest, warmest, and most complex of any solid state amp I’ve played. The Bud is packed with professional features. If you want to Rock out with the Bud the Tech 21 Fly Rig is the perfect tiny companion to make this Your only amp. The gig bag is perfect, one trip in and out of gigs and rehearsals. Thanks Peter

My main amp for a few years now is the JazzAmp 112. So I jumped at the chance to buy the Bud as soon as it was made available. My Bud is great with my archtops and very, very wonderful with my 14 archtop with a built-in humbucker. Bravo Peter!!!””y main amp for a few years now is the JazzAmp 112.”

I couldn’t be more pleased with my Bud! I have two acoustic guitars with different pickups and I can easily zero in on a very natural sound in any situation. In large rooms I use it as a stage monitor and run the Direct Out into the soundboard (it is quiet!). In small rooms it does just fine on it’s own and I’m shocked at how good a vocal sound I can achieve. I’d be lying if I didn’t admit I bought it for portability…but it exceeded my expectations. It’s the only amp I use these days.

The Bud amp by Henriksen Amplifiers is nothing short of a miracle for working guitarists who need the best possible sound in a ridiculously portable system with a ton of features. Guitarists who often park several blocks away for gigs, need to take stairs, ride the train, etc. – this amp is a blessing! However, the most important aspect is the sound – the classic, warm, and pure tone of the JazzAmp is beautifully retained. I actually think the Bud is a little more versatile as it works exceptionally well for steel and nylon string acoustic guitars in addition to archtops. I actually fly with mine (check it as baggage in the gig bag) and use the XLR out to go to the house board in larger rooms or outdoor festivals. And, I can still use the amp itself as a monitor and not be subjected to bad stage monitors. The EQ is powerful, and the dual/universal channels are perfectly suited for two guitars on a gig, or one guitar with two pickups. For acoustic gigs, I use a dual source pickup/microphone by K&K, and can mix/EQ each source independently with each channel on the Bud. In addition to working well in the recording studio, it’s also perfect for the teaching studio with the two independent channels. In short, AMAZING! Sean McGowan http://www.seanmcgowanguitar.com

This is the best amp I’ve ever used. All my guitars, and I have a lot of them, especially acoustic archtops, sound great and the best thing of all, there’s no feedback on my archtops no matter how loud I play. Someone once told me if an amp is set up correctly, there will be no feedback. I wish I had this amp a long time ago, I would have saved a lot of headaches and a lot of money.

This amp is everything it says it is. Portable, best acoustic amp period, flexible, and so on. Two examples, for those wondering of its qualities on a stage or a gig:
1) I brought the Bud and the 1×10 extension cab to a gig for a medium sized club and forgot my speaker cable. I had the sound tech mic the Bud and played my opener with no trouble and then sat in with the band and cut through just fine. Afterwards, the tech and the band could hardy believe it. This was with a 335.
2) I played a recital hall with my acoustic and had about 100 people there. The Bud was set at about 15% and sounded as natural as the guitar itself. Just louder. Exactly what someone who has a nice acoustic should want it to sound. This was with a Martin 000-17 and a very basic piezo pickup.
Add to that, Henriksen matched my ext cab my Vanilla, gratis! This week I am going to run the acoustic through one channel and the 335 in stereo through the other channel and a small tube amp. Can’t wait!

I am a professional jazz guitarist and long term endorser of Henriksen products. The product line has always been amazing. However, the Bud has changed the game. There is NO smaller, more powerful, or sonically pleasing amp on the market in my opinion. I was skeptical at first, but after several nights competing with a B3 organ, and STILL not breaking up, I was a BELIEVER! It’s feature packed and is the perfect traveling amp. There’s really no more to say. It’s simply great all around!

Wow! What a fitting tribute to add to the Henriksen line. This ‘Bud’ is the biggest, cleanest and best sounding ‘little’ amp I’ve ever heard! You’ve got to hear this thing!

No one has used Henriksen Amplifiers much longer than I, and The Bud is just terrific! The size and weight make it a no-brainer for rehearsal, but I just used it at a club gig and the performance impressed everyone. The stage sound was slightly better than my old 110, with plenty of volume. Running it through the band PA, I’m told it sounded great out front, and our sound guy was impressed with how quiet the amp is when the guitar is tacet. The line-out being XLR as opposed to phone plug is a positive, and everyone thinks that the way the Henriksen name lights up when the amp is on is very cool. If you could move the on/off swith to a more convenient location in a future iteration I would, but that isn’t a big deal if you don’t turn it off between sets, and with no tubes to wear out I can power up and down just once a night on any occasion. I won’t typically employ reverb or use both channels at once. If I have any thoughts on those features down the road I will let you know. For any jazz guitarist who likes a clean, balanced sound in a super-convenient, versatile package — and that’s a lot of players, I imagine — The Bud should be on their wish list. I am really glad to have this cool little amplifier.
